(30) Days of Music

Day 1 – Your favorite song: Baby, I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis

This was freakin' hard! I could not pick a favorite song. I like so many different styles and genres but I decided to pick something from oldies. Those songs are so simple yet so good. I've changed my mind a million times while trying to pick my favorite song but I ended up with Baby I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis. It such a sweet little song! I also really like the version by the Arctic Monkeys and you know a song is great when it is redone by other artists.

Day 2 – Your least favorite song: Trapped in the Closet by R Kelly

There are 22 parts to Trapped in the Closet. I guess R Kelly was trying to be creative and different with this but unfortunately it was a total fail...for me at least. He hardly is singing! It's more like he is sing-talking the entire thing. The story itself starts out semi-normal and gets freakin' weird. For example, I decided to post part 11 because that is when the gay police man discovers his wife is pregnant with a midget stripper's child. Yeah....CRAZY!!! I posted part 11 but you can pick which you is the worst for you because they all the suck! Again I want you guys to know that picking my least favorite song was a difficult feat, but I did it.

Day 3 – A song that makes you happy: Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus (Signed by Stephen Terence)

So....I hate Miley cyrus and her songs except for Party in the USA. The first time I heard it, I thought it was decent for something coming from her. However, once I saw this YouTube video of Stephen Torrence signing the song in ASL, I fell in love with it! I am currently learning ASL right now and he is awesome! Each time I watch this video, it puts a smile on my face. Everytime I hear this song, it reminds me of the video, so yeah...Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus and signed by Stephen Torrence makes me happy!!! :D

Day 4 – A song that makes you sad: Hallelujah by Imogen Heap

Hallelujah is my sad song. It was originally written by Leonard Cohen in the 80's and has been covered by many artists. My favorite version is from Imogen Heap. You can really feel the emotion that she puts into the song. You can also really hear and feel the sorrowfulness in the music and words.
The song is also known for being on the hit show The OC. (Yes, I am guilty of watching that show but only the first 2 seasons. They were the best ones!) A version from Jeff Buckley was played at the end of Season 1 when Ryan is leaving (Marissa) to go back to the IE with an ex and everyone is sad. Imogen Heap's version was played at the end of Season 3 when Marissa dies. Both really sad moments in the plots of each season.
Hallelujah was also recently covered by Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris, and Charlie Sexton for the Haiti Relief.

Day 5 – A song that reminds you of someone: Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf

This song (actually all of Meatloaf's songs) always reminds me of my best friend growing up. Her and her dad loved Meatloaf. We would always listen to his songs while driving in the car. Sadly, I am no longer in contact with my friend. Back then we were in seperable, however we grew apart after our sophomore year in high school. I miss her lots! Every once in a while, I think about all of our adventures growing up. I hear about her once in a blue moon and I really hope all is well in her life.

Day 6 – A song that reminds of you of somewhere: Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks

This song always reminds me of NorCal. When I was about 12 years old, my cousins from Canada came to visit. Our whole family took a road trip up to NorCal to go to San Fran and visit my aunts up there. On our car ride up, my parents only had one CD in the car and it was all hit songs from the 70's. It was the first time my siblings and I met our cousins, but we automatically clicked and Seasons in the Sun became our song. Though it is quite sad, it reminds of me of the fun times I had with my family on that trip. I remember us kids jam packed in the back seat, each one of us getting souvinere jackets because we didn't know it would be so cold in the summer (we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts), and the giant slumber party we had every night on the floor. It was a fun trip and it always brings back fond memories for me!
P.S. Don't you love the music video from the 70's?! So different and simple compared to the music videos of today!

Day 07 – A song that reminds you of a certain event: Wannabe by Spice Girls

I was a HUGE Spice Girls fan and still am. I will love them forever! Their songs bring back so many childhood memories. One in particular is when my dad took me and my sisters to see Spice World. If you couldn't already tell, it was a movie about the Spice Girls. Looking back, I really appreciate the fact that my dad took us and sat through that movie with us. It must have been hard, because it was not a "good' movie. We loved it though, so thanks Daddy, you are the best!
I love all of their songs, but I decided to post Wannabe since it was probably their biggest hit. I am throwing up a peace sign and exclaiming "GIRL POWER!" as I post this.

Day 08 – A song that you know all the words to: The Bazooka Bubble Gum Song

I am THE WORST person when it comes to song lyrics. The only songs I know all the words to are children songs I learned growing up. They are songs such as, The Song That Never Ends (Lamb Chop's Play Along) and Bazooka Bubble Gum. The only reason I probably remember them is because they are so repetitive. I don't even know all the words from my favorite songs, even though I've heard them millions of times. I can sing along with and karaoke to songs that I know, but when it comes to recalling the lyrics, I just cannot. The video I decided to post is The Height's version of Bazooka Bubble Gum. It essentially the same as the original song, but with their own twist on it.

Day 09 – A song that you can dance to: Thriller By Michael Jackson
My pick for this day HAS TO BE from Michael Jackson. No one else can compare in this category! I decided to go with Thriller because who doesn't know the Thriller dance?!? I don't even think I have to further explain, this song is legendary!

Day 10 – A song that makes you fall asleep: A Lack of Color by Death Cab for Cutie

I guess I like to listen to sad songs before for I go to bed, because all of the songs I considered for this day were sad ones. Well, all but one. I Can't Help Falling in Love With You by Elvis Presley was a close 2nd and that is a beautiful love song. Sad songs just have better melodies for you to fall asleep to I suppose. A Lack of Color is quite the sad song but a good one. I especially like the musical intro in the song.

Day 11 – A song from your favorite band: My Best Friend by Weezer

Ah, another tough choice to make since there are so many good bands out there. I've loved Weezer since their first album. I love their nerdy and quirkiness. They are so awesome! My Best Friend is a super cute song from them that anyone can relate to.

Day 12 – A song from a band you hate: Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous by Good Charolette

I don't hate any bands but I do dislike Good Charolette a lot. Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous was such a dumb song. It's ridiculous because those twins dated Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Come on! Those girls are the people they are singing about in this song. They are mocking themselves and the people they associate with just to keep up with their faux punk image. BOO!

Day 13 – A song that is a guilty pleasure: 3 Small Words by Josie and the Pussycats

Several years back in 2001, Josie and the Pussycats came out starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson and yes, I saw it! I actually really liked the movie. It was quite cute but unfortunately it didn't do too well in the box offices. However, the soundtrack did pretty well and yes, I bought the album. Hey! I was only 13 or 14 back then, but I revisit the album once in a while for my guilty pleasure. For a while I thought it was actually Rachael Leigh Cook singing, but according to IMDB, it's actually an artist named Kay Hanley who sings as "Josie.

Day 14 – A song that no one would expect you to love: Under the Influence by Eminem feat. D12

This song is so vulgar and I don't relate to most of the things in this song. Regardless, I like it a lot. I remember in 8th grade I got Eminem's The Marshall Mather LP album. One of my best friends and I would listen to the CD all the time, and this was our favorite song. Something about the song just drew up in. We were so silly back then!

Day 15 – A song that describes you: Brandy, You're A Fine Girl by Looking Glass

 I am a fine girl!

Day 16A song that you used to love but now hate A song you like from a soundtrack: Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G.

I seriously cannot think of a song I used to love but now hate. I will keep thinking and try to add this later.

So it is Day 21 and I still can't think of a song that I loved and now hate. I decided to change this day to a song I like from a soundtrack. I chose Big Poppa by Biggie from Hardball. I feel like not enough people have seen this movie, but it was actually good. I'm not a huge fan of Keanu Reeves, but I like Diane Lane and she's in it too. I actually cried during this movie (it was a very very sad scene). Anywho, in the movie, Miles, who is the pitcher, cannot concentrate unless he has his headphones on and Big Poppa is playing. There is a time when he could not wear them, so his team sings the song for me. It was so cute!

Day 17 – A song that you hear often on the radio: Say Aah by Trey Songz feat. Fabolous

Any song that involves "your birthday" is popular so naturally this song is popular and overplayed. Plus, Trey Songz is the hot artist to make a song with right now.

Day 18 – A song that you wish you heard on the radio: Fluorescent Adolescent by Arctic Monkeys

There are so many songs I wish I heard on the radio! Since I could only pick one, I decided on Fluorescent Adolescent by Arctic Monkeys. I love British bands and it's such an upbeat song. However, the music video for it is wacky and violent and kind of sad. Regardless, great song!

Day 19 – A song from your favorite album: Sleeping In by The Postal Service

My favorite album is Give Up by The Postal Service. I have to say that I love all of the songs on the album. I know that The Postal Service is a side project for Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello but I really wish they would do more! They've released a few other songs that aren't on Give Up. One of my favs is their cover of Against All Odds.

Day 20 A song that you listen to when you’re angry  A Song Currently Played on the Radio that you like: California Girls by Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg

I don't really angry too often, and I don't listen to music when I am angry. Even is music is playing, I don't really hear it because I am preoccupied thinking about why I am angry and how to get over it. It's not good to harbor bad feelings for long so I try to resolve them ASAP.
Now, instead of a song I listen to when I am angry, I decided to choose a song on the radio that I like. The winner is California Girls by Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg.
This is going to be my summer jam! This song sits close to my heart, since I am a California girl. I love the lyrics and they are so true! "California girls, we're unforgettable!" Hell yeah!

Day 21 – A song that you listen to when you’re happy: Fantasy by Mariah Carey

I LOVE this song! It always puts me a good mood. I don't know any girl who does not like this song, in fact, I don't know any guys who do not like this song either. It is Mariah Carey's best song. Once in a while it will come on the radio and I can't help but to sing along at the top of my lungs. I love the original but I equally love the remix with Ol' Dirty Bastard

Day 22 – A song that you listen to when you’re sad: Lean On Me by Bill Withers

When I'm sad, I like to listen to songs that make me feel better. Lean on me definitely does the job. It reminds me that I shouldn't spend too much of my time dwelling and being down. This song also reminds me that I am soooooo lucky to have the friends that I do. I am truly blessed to have so many wonderful friends in my life. I used to be a very private person who kept almost everything to myself. In the past year or so, I've learned to open up to my friends. I love you guys!

Day 23 – A song that you want to play at your wedding: Don't Change by Musiq Soulchild

I am such a sucker for cute love songs so you can only imagine what would be played at my wedding. Now, how can I only pick one to post?!? I decided on Don't Change by Musiq Soulchild, because it's a smooth R&B song about what you should feel at your wedding. It;s about a guy reassuring his girl that she's the one for him and no matter what his love for her won't change.

Day 24A song that you want to play at your funeral Just a song that you like: Starstruck by Lady Gaga feat. Space Cowboy and Flo Rida

I don't think about things like what song I want played at my funeral. I think that is up to ones who are close to me when the time comes. It is for their remembrance of me. Instead I decided to post a song that I like. I LOVE Gaga and I didn't want to finish this mini music blog without posting a song from her. She is amazing with her avant-garde style and innovations. She is an icon and one of the greatest pop acts to come out in a long time. Here is one of my favs from her.

Day 25 – A song that makes you laugh: Vampire by Antsy Pants

This is a cute/funny/silly song from the Juno Soundtrack.

Day 26 – A song that you can play on an instrument: When the Saints Go Marching In

I can play this song on the piano. I actually never took piano lessons but my younger sister did. I learned how to play a few songs from looking over her piano books. When I was younger, I took violin lessons. Unfortunately, I have forgotten most of what I learned. Maybe sometime in the near future, I'll bust out my violin and give it another try.

Day 27 – A song that you wish you could play: Salut D'Amour by Edward  Elgar

I wish I would have stuck to the violin longer. I could have been in a cool jazz band or like Sean Mackin of Yellowcard. Anywho it would be really cool if I could play a classical piece on the violin, such as Salut D'Amour. Classical violin has such a distinct and beautiful sound. It really manifests the moods and emotions of the song.

Day 28 A song that makes you feel guilty Favorite Christmas song: All I Want for Christmas is You by Olivia Olson

The theme for this day sucks! I had to change it. Christmas time is such a lovely time of the year and everyone has to have a Christmas song that love. Mine is from the soundtrack of Love Actually. I LOVE this movie! A little girl named Joanna sings this song at a talent show in the movie and it was adorable! Unfortunately, I couldn't find a clip of it on Youtube, so you will just have to settle for the song only.

Day 29 – A song from your childhood: Tearin' Up My Heart by N Sync

All I have to say is....N SYNC 4 LIFE!

Day 30 – Your favorite song at this time last year: Love Story by Taylor Swift

I can barely remember what I did last week, so this was a tough one. I had to google hits from May 2009 to think of some songs. I must admit, I wasn't a big fan of Taylor Swift when she first came out, but this song won me over. All of her songs are so cute and age appropriate for her and any girl can relate. I love the video also!

Day 31 A song you wish existed in its entirety  Just for fun: Single Ladies by Beyonce (Gleek/Kurt version)

Enjoy!
